“DOTTIE THE LLAMA” PASSES AWAY

Lights FC announce unexpected death of one of two official team llamas;

“Dottie the Llama” is survived by her half-sister “Dollie-Llama” Who Is Scheduled To Appear at Lights FC Home Opener on Saturday Night.

June 2, 2021 (Las Vegas, NV) — It is with great sadness that Las Vegas Lights FC announces the death of one of its official team llamas “Dottie the Llama.”  

Dottie recently passed away due stomach complications.  Specifically, under the care of her regular veterinarians, it was determined that the best route for her was euthanasia.

Dottie is survived by her half-sister, “Dollie-Llama” who is also an official llama of Lights FC.  

“We all are saddened to hear about Dottie’s sudden illness & death,” said Lights FC Owner & C.E.O. Brett Lashbrook.  “She and her sister Dollie are loved by all of our fans since the first match in 2018.  She will be missed and always remembered with a smile on our faces.”

Lights FC’s home opener is scheduled for this Saturday, June 5th against Tacoma Defiance.  “Dollie-Llama” is scheduled to be in attendance starting with the pre-match tailgate party starting at 5:30pm (with kick-off scheduled for 7:30pm).

Every type of frontline workers are eligible to receive the free tickets.  This includes any local resident that continued to work outside their home during the pandemic, especially at the peak moments of the “unknowns” — e.g., healthcare, hospitality, store workers, police/fire, transportation services, etc., etc.

The process is very simple as follows…:

Non-Frontline Workers:  Go to either De Castroverde Law Group offices during normal business hours during the week and receive two (2) free tickets to that week’s home match.  Distribution is limited to the first 250 fans at each location each week.

May 18, 2021 (Las Vegas, NV) — The Best Value in Vegas Sports just got better!  Lights FC announced a comprehensive partnership today with Terrible’s gas stations that will feature “$10 Terrible’s Tickets” for adults (general admission) and $5 Kids tickets (all seating bowl sections!) during “Summer of Soccer.”

April 5, 2021 (Las Vegas, NV) — Lights FC announced today its initial roster signings for the 2021 season featuring players from a range of experiences, including former Major League Soccer SuperDraft picks, USL Championship veterans, youth national team and international leagues.  Listed below is the initial set of player announcements with additional players to be announced in the coming weeks.

Danny Crisostomo (Midfielder):

• Played for United Soccer League’s Orange County S.C. in 2019 & 2020, where he played against Lights FC.

• Graduated from UC-Irvine where he earned multiple recognitions, including Big West Midfielder of the Year and All-Big West First Team.

Frank Daroma (Midfielder):

• An international player from Sierra Leone, he most recently played at Cal State University – San Bernardino where he earned multiple accolades including United Soccer Coaches All-Region 1st team & All-American status.

• Elected to turn professional prior to completion of his collegiate career to join Lights FC. 

Phillip Ejimadu (Goalkeeper):

• Attended an U.S. Under-20 Youth National Team training camp in 2018, he is eligible to represent Brazil (his father’s home country), Nigeria (his mother’s home country) or the United States (born in Minneapolis, Minnesota) on the full international level.

• Played in youth academies in Brazil as a teenager before returning to the U.S. to sign his first professional contract with Los Angeles FC in 2019 where he has been loaned to League One FC Tucson (where he earned USL League One “Save of the Year”) in 2019 and USL Championship San Diego Loyal in 2020.

Eric Illoski (Defender):

• Selected by Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft, after a successful collegiate career at UCLA.

• Becomes the third member of his family to play professional soccer joining his two brothers (both who have played in USL Championship).

Roberto Molina (Forward):

• Originally from El Salvador, he has played the last two years at University of California – Irvine where he earned All-Big West Freshman Team accolades.

• Elected to turn professional prior to completion of his collegiate career to join Lights FC.

Duncan Turnbull (Goalkeeper):

• Previously drafted by Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo but opted instead to sign his first professional contract with England’s Portsmouth F.C. where he has subsequently been signed by Lights FC via a loan agreement for the start of the 2021 season.

• Former University of Notre Dame goalkeeper becomes the tallest Lights FC player in club history at 6’ 7”.

Michael Yeboah (Midfielder):

• Born and raised in Ghana, Yeboah is moving to the United States to continue his professional career which started in the Ghanaian Premier League last season.

• Acquired by Lights FC via a loan agreement with his former club.

Chinenye Chidera (“CC”) Uche (Defender):

• Played NCAA Division One soccer for both Duke University (2016-17) and The Ohio State University (2018-19).

• Born in New York City (Queens), he was recently selected in the 2nd Round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft.

Nathan Sepulveda (Midfielder):

• A highly recruited high school player, he is electing to begin his professional career now instead of accepting a multitude of NCAA Division One offers.

• At 18 years old, he becomes the youngest player in club history to sign with Lights FC.

Lights FC’s 2021 season starts on May 5th with four road matches.  Its first home match at Cashman Field is set for Saturday, June 5th against Tacoma Defiance.

Blake Frischknecht:  In addition, Lights FC announced today that Blake Frischknecht has been released by mutual agreement from his player contract for the 2021 season to allow him to pursue another professional soccer opportunity.  Frischknecht began his professional career last season with Lights FC where he appeared in 13 matches (one start) scoring three goals.  

Pre-Season Match Against Los Angeles FC:  Lights FC kicked off its pre-season schedule on Saturday with a 1-0 loss to Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC at Banc of California Stadium. Due to Covid-19 protocols, the match was played behind closed doors without fans.  Lights FC pre-season continues this week with a match-up this Saturday versus Cal United FC.

Lights FC Season Tickets On Sale Now:  Fans can still purchase season tickets for as low as $200. All season tickets utilize a “flex dates” model to provide fans with the ultimate flexibility to attend only those matches they choose to do so. Season tickets start as low as only $200 and feature a unique “flex dates” model to allow fans to use their season tickets only for the matches they wish to attend — e.g., 1 ticket for 16 matches, 2 tickets for 8 matches…16 tickets for 1 match, etc.  This fan friendly season ticket structure has helped Lights FC be named as the “Best Sports Value” in Las Vegas.  Fans can purchase season tickets and/or be notified as to when individual match tickets will go on-sale at LightsFC.com/Tickets.

Highlights of Lights FC’s home schedule include…:

• June 2021:  Four weekend home matches in June (including home opener on Saturday, June 5th).

• Fourth of July Weekend:  The annual Fourth of July weekend home match tradition continues with a home match on Saturday, July 3rd.

• Weekend Dates:  For the first time in Club history, weekend home matches will be scheduled across a medley of Friday nights, Saturday afternoons, Saturday nights and Sunday evening.  In the past, Lights FC home matches have primarily been featured only on Saturday evenings.

• Kick-Off Times:  Summer home matches in June, July & August will kick-off at 7:30pm.  In the Fall, all evening home matches will kick-off at 7:00pm.

In addition, Lights FC will continue to work with local health & government officials to maximize the number of fans permitted to attend home matches at Cashman Field in advance of the June 5th home opener.  While additional information will be made available in the coming weeks, Lights FC will continue to give priority access to season ticket members to attend home matches before individual match ticket buyers.  

Lights FC will announce its match promotions schedule in the coming weeks.  Previous years highlights have included the $10,000 Helicopter Cash Drop, the World’s Largest Water Balloon Fight and “Vegas Golden Knights Night” where Lights FC players wore hockey themed jerseys.  The 2021 home schedule will feature a mix of old and new promotional theme nights for fans of all ages to enjoy.

March 12, 2021 (Las Vegas, NV) — Las Vegas Lights FC announced today that U.S. Men’s National Team veteran Steve Cherundolo is the new Lights FC head coach.  In addition, the Club has entered into a new affiliation with Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Football Club.  

Cherundolo, 42 years old, is widely regarded as having had one of the most impressive European soccer careers of any American in history having played an unprecedented 16 straight seasons in Germany (all for Hannover 96).  His national team career is equally impressive, having been named to the U.S. Men’s National Team roster for the 2002, 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.  At the 2010 World Cup, he played every single minute for the red, white & blue as it won its group and advanced to the knockout rounds.  Since retiring, he has earned the prestigious UEFA “A-Level” coaching license and has served in recent years as an assistant coach for Germany’s under-15 national team, as well as an assistant for Hannover 96 and Stuttgart in the Bundesliga. In 2018, Cherundolo also briefly joined the U.S. national team staff for a European training camp and matches.  

“Today is an exciting day for Lights FC.  Coach Cherundolo is an amazing addition and LAFC is a world-class organization — we are very lucky to be working with both,” said Lights FC Owner & C.E.O. Brett Lashbrook.  “To be clear, our expectations for Lights FC have not changed.  We have the ability to continue to turn Las Vegas into a true ‘soccer city’ and today’s announcements without a doubt help accelerate our growth plan.”  

LAFC’s inaugural Major League Soccer season was in 2018, the same year as Lights FC, and it has since quickly established itself as one of the premiment clubs in Major League Soccer.  Led by former U.S. Men’s National Team Head Coach Bob Bradley, LAFC sent shockwaves around the North American soccer community just weeks ago when it advanced to the finals of the CONCACAF Champions League as only a three-year old club.  Buoyed by one of the best fan bases in American sports, LAFC plays its home matches at Banc of California Stadium, a new 25,000-seat venue located adjacent to the historic L.A. LAFC also currently features two Las Vegas natives on its rosters — Tristan Blackmon & Danny Musovski.  Blackmon is a Bishop Gorman High School graduate selected #3 overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft and recently called into the U.S. Men’s National Team Camp.  Musovski is a graduate of both Liberty High School and UNLV where he finished his career in the Rebels’ record book for being in the top 5 all-time in career goals, assists and points. 

The 2021 USL Championship season is expected to return around May 1st and will feature 31 clubs competing across four regionalized divisions.

Nov. 30, 2020 (Las Vegas, NV) — Las Vegas Lights FC begins the building of its 2021 United Soccer League season roster with today’s announcement that the Club has exercised its option to extend the contract for homegrown player Blake Frischknecht.  After making his professional debut this season, Frischknecht made an immediate impact scoring three goals (tied for second on the team) and three assists (most on team) in his return from major knee surgery less than one year ago.

When Las Vegas Lights FC launched in 2018 it announced the “Lights FC Homegrown Player Program” presented by Nevada State College.  This initiative set forth a firm commitment by Lights FC to become the first professional sports team to guarantee that at all times in its future history it would always have at least one player on its roster that was either born in Las Vegas, raised in Las Vegas and/or went to college in Las Vegas before their professional career began.  With today’s announcement, this commitment to investing in local players continues.  The Club will continue exploring the potential signing of additional local players for the 2021 season in the months ahead.

Frischknecht, 25 years old, starred at Centennial High School where he was named first-team All-State, All-Sunset Region and All-Northwest Division.  He initially attended college at Brigham Young University before taking a two-year hiatus to complete a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bahia Blanca, Argentina.  Upon returning to the States he joined the NCAA Division One soccer program at Utah Valley University where he thrived setting numerous school & conference goal scoring records and was named the WAC Offensive Player of Year.

Lights FC remains engaged in contract talks with several additional players on the 2020 roster to return for the 2021 season. Additional player roster transactions will be announced throughout the months ahead.
